What happens when you eat.
This is what happens when your body need to make energy (ATP).
This is fully from memory with no notes and its real stressful to type it out....
here goes.... (at the end you wonder why we study these crap and memorise it.... its harder than imperial examinations.)
Glucose + ATP ----> (hexokinase)Glucose-6-phosphate + ADP.
Glucose-6-phospate --->(PhosphoglucoseIsomerase)Fructose-6-phosphate. Fructose-6-phosphate +ATP ----->(Phosphofructosekinase)Fructose-1,6-biphosphate.
Fructose-1,6-biphosphate -----> (aldolase)Dihydroxyacetonephosphate + Glyceraldehye-3-phosphate.
Glyceraldehye-3-phosphate + NAD^+ + Pi ----->(Glyceraldehye-3-phosphate dehydrogenase)1,3-bisphosphate gluterate +NADH + H^+.
1,3-bisphosphate + ADP ---->(phosphogluterate kinase) 3-glycerate + ATP.
3-phosphoglycerate ----> (Phosphoglycerate mutase) 2-phosphoglycerate. 2-phosphoglycerate ----->(enolase) Phosphoenolpyruvate + H20.
Phosphoenolpyruvate + ADP -----> (pyruvate kinase) Pyruvate + ATP.
Im not done yet...
TCA cycle
Acetyl CoA + Oxaloacetate ------> (Citrate synthase) Citrate + CoA
Citrate -----> (aconitase) Isocitrate
Isocitrate + NAD+ -----> (isocitrate dehydrogenase) alpha-ketoglutarate + NADH + H^+ +CO2
alphaketoglutarate + CoA + NAD+ --------> (alphaketoglutarate dehydrogenase) succinyl CoA + CO2 + NADH + H^+
SuccinylCoA + GDP + Pi -----> (succinyl synthetase) Succinate + CoA + GTP
Succinate + FAD----> (succinate dehydrogenase) Furamate + FADH2
Furamate + H20 -----> (furamase) Malate
Malate + NAD+ -----> (malate dehydrogenase) Oxaloacetate + NADH + H^+
In the end a complete oxidation of glucose either yields 38 or 36 ATPs. Each ATP is 7.3kcal/mol.... each NADH yields 3 ATP and each FADH yields 2 ATP. Depending on which shuttle the NADH uses. Anaerobic glycolysis will cause Pyruvate + NADH + H^+ -----> (lactate dehydrogenase) Lactate + NAD+.
Thats only half of what im supposed to study for tmr.... there is electron chain transport and oxidative phosphorylation and.... all the crappy calculations im going to use. its nearly 1, I have class at 8, got to wake up at 6. I wish this day would be over soon.
